Have been told I'm an excellent cook, but I've never been an overall good baker. Now I know why. Not only do the receipes look delicious, I have learned a lot reading Buddy's details that explain why my baking hasn't always up to par. Love the show, dramatic license and all, and I am really in love with Buddy's latest baking cookbook.

I will start by saying this is a good book.
"The Good" I love the way Buddy goes into detail for decorating. He explains decorating basics, walks you through the simplest cakes then step by step goes into a little more advanced. Great for the Beginning decorator. The instructions are clear and the step by step pictures are wonderful. SOME of the recipes are to die for. The chocolate mousse, Italian custard...Chocolate cake, icing recipes are spot on! yummmmm! Love his flavor suggestions for cakes.

The reason I can't give this book 5 stars is:
"The BAD" I was a little disappointed that there really weren't any NEW recipes. The same recipes can be found in his first book. If you don't have his first book then this is a good buy for you

"The Ugly" Even though MOST of the recipes in the book are divine: WARNING! The vanilla cake recipe is the worst recipe ever! I am a professional baker as well but this recipe leaves you with a heavy cake that taste like pancake dough. I wouldn't even call it a sponge cake... I tried it twice making sure everything was exact. Both attempts, Big fat BOMB on this one!!!! I was very disappointed in this recipe. Hopefully it is just a misprint in the directions. All in all I would recommend the book!

Buddy Valastro says that this book would give a reader the same education as one who comes to work at his shop...well...with the exception of lack of firsthand experience - that's pretty true. Much of the book does give excellent advice and instructions and recipes for other goodies that would be found in his shop in addition to cakes. There are recipes for cookies, pastries, pies, tarts, cakes and cupcakes.

In his introduction Buddy tells how he started baking and then lets you in on how his kitchen is organized with information on equipment. There is a picture, but the items are not identified. Some novice cooks might need help there, as they would throughout the book; this is really not, especially in the cake section for beginning cooks. One could start in the cookie section and work their way up to the cakes if they were very determined, but as, he does state several times throughout the book one does need to practice. Ingredients are meticulously explored, as are the techniques

The recipes start with cookies, there are many pictures for many of the recipes and informative boxed off tips such as; soaking cakes, making doughnuts, shaping cannoli. A bit is told about each recipe. One of the first class features in the whole book are the excellent photos showing how to accomplish specific tasks and the instructions with them.
The cakes look marvelous and are not out of reach to create for a more practiced cook with some knowledge of making cakes and working with fondants and frosting. The instructions and diagrams again are outstanding.
There is a chart to devise your own cake combinations and the basic recipes for different cakes and frostings. Special cakes and their decorations are also detailed, such as; summer beach cake, and a Halloween Frankenstein cake
The recipes we have been especially pleased with so far are the; pignoli cookies, rugelach and Linzer tart cookies.

This would make a good addition for anyone wanting great cookie recipes as well as ones to create awe inspiring cakes.

I don't have much experience with silicone products, but I bought these (along with a set for regular size muffins) to go with a mini-muffin pan I purchased at the same time. They work just fine, but I did have a couple of the muffins stick, and they are not easy to clean and dry. The extra effort involved does not make them worth using to me.

These little cups are colorful and perform well. I didn't experience any sticking to the cups, but I sprayed them with Pam before baking. They are easy to clean and the colors are great for snacks for little ones. They hold enough for a mouthful of a special treat. I wish I could get a set all in the same color - something not so bright - but overall, I would purchase these again.

I selected this title to supplement my collection of recipes for cookies and other sweets. Overall I am happy with this book but there are some things that caught me by surprise.

The idea behind this book was borne from a broader concept similar to an ice cream truck. The author decided to make a truck that is more or less a rolling bakery, containing several kinds of cookies, pies, brownies and other sweet baked goods. With the success of the "Treats Truck" has come this cookbook, showcasing several of the recipes for the items she sells on her truck.

The recipes themselves are not particularly fancy. Rather, the author has stuck close to the basics with some minor variations. If you're looking for a good no-frills chocolate cookie recipe or a traditional brownie recipe this book is for you. By her own admission the author does this deliberately - "Not too fancy, always delicious" is even printed right on the cover of the book.

Several reviewers have stated that the graphics design of this book is unpleasant. While it's...different, I think it is good if you view this book as a good entry point for younger people to start baking. It is the kind of cookbook that my kids (one of whom is a teenager) benefit from. The writing style itself matches the book design - there's an exuberance there that is a little disconcerting but conveys excitement - perfect to get the kids interested.

I have tried some of the recipes in this book and they have turned out well. I especially liked the pecan pie recipe which turned out remarkably well.

This is by no means a bad cookbook. It's a good book on baking goodies that are sure to be a hit, sticking close to the tried-and-true basics. Though better-suited to younger readers it's a fine resource.

As someone who loves to bake, I was intrigued by the "Treats Truck Baking Book". Food trucks are all the rage with offerings ranging from ethnic food to desserts. Kim Ima's book looked to be delicious and unique, yet most of the recipes are nothing "new" in terms of the items - cookies, cakes, pies, brownies.

What "The Treats Truck Baking Book" does offer is a very colorful layout with lots of side tips and some unique ideas. There are sections devoted to different desserts and baking implements. Ima offers various recipes for frosting and her unique sandwich cookie concoctions, perhaps the best section of the book. She even includes her own "special recipes" section, those recipes that only come along once in a while or were created for certain customers.

The recipes I liked best included Ima's cinnamon cookies, pumpkin swirl cookies, and Mexican chocolate brownies. The book is colorful and lots of fun to read through, but for anyone who has done a lot of baking, this is no reinvention of the wheel.

As a former resident of NYC, and a former weekly visitor to Sugar (a.k.a. the Treats Truck) I've been waiting impatiently for this book to come out. While baking Kim's treats myself will never be as fun as compulsively checking her location on Twitter and bouncing up to the truck's counter, it's the next best thing.

First and foremost, the recipes are spot-on. I'm not an accomplished baker, so I appreciate the tips sprinkled throughout the book. She clearly states which ingredients she uses, like unsalted butter, dark brown sugar, whole milk and large eggs. This is helpful as I don't know, for example, the difference between light brown sugar and dark brown sugar, and I find these distinctions are not always specified in other cookbooks. To date, I've made my three favorite treats: oatmeal jammies (with apricot jam), coconut macaroons, and cran-almond crispies. Prep was quick and uncomplicated, the recipe lists straightforward, and most importantly, all three turned out perfectly. I like the approach to baking as something that should be fun, simple and delicious. I also see a lot of mix-and-match options riffing off the basic recipes, which I think gives a lot of bang for your buck.

Second, the design is just terrific. Echoing a previous reviewer, props to Harper Collins for publishing a cookbook that clearly breaks through a sea of sameness in an over-saturated cookbook market. It is Kim's and the Treats Truck's philosophy to the core; anything less colorful, less quirky or less fun would have been an injustice to the Treats Truck brand. It's well laid out and the print is easy-to-read and follow. The illustrations are particularly charming; clearly the designer put a lot of love into this book and it shows.

I had a lot of expectations for this cookbook and they've all been surpassed. I plan to give out copies of this book, accompanied by a batch of oatmeal jammies, as holiday hostess gifts.

I have used several brands of Silicone Baking Mats in varying price ranges, from You-Get-What-You-Pay-For-Cheap to More-Than-I-Should-Have-Spent-Expensive. The Fox Run Silicone Baking Mat is comparable to more expensive baking mats, and it's very reasonably priced.

In the few weeks I've had this mat, I've used it to make tofu, several types of cookies, biscotti, and focaccia. It's performed well on all occasions: nothing sticks and everything bakes evenly. It's thicker than some of the other mats I have, and I like the heavier weight. Some baking mats are very sticky-feeling, but this one is not.

So far, this mat hasn't retained food odors; however, I haven't cooked anything particularly pungent on it (I keep this one for cookies, breads, etc...I use another one for foods with garlic, onions, etc). The one con that I've noticed with this mat is that it stains more easily than my others-- the first batch of chocolate chip cookies I made left telltale chip marks all over the mat. But, since stains don't affect the mat's performance, I didn't take off a star on my rating.

Try the Fox Run Silicone Baking Mat--I'll certainly buy another in the future if the price remains as reasonable as it is now.

I ordered this product to replace my Silpats that I have used for about four years. I was looking for a less expensive alternative and, boy, did I find it!

I can use both sides of the mats, not just the one side as with the Silpat. It has markings on it so you don't have to use a ruler if you don't want to. Cookies just slide right off of them. I am very impressed with this product.
